YR Reading Information Meeting

Please see the presentation 'How we teach reading' to find out how we use Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics, Oxford Reading Scheme and others to teach reading.

We regularly hold meetings for parents to come and discuss how reading is taught in school and how parents can help support their child at home.

If you were unable to attend the last meeting you can see the PowerPoint that was shared and download the leaflets for further information.

Click on the link below to hear the articulation of the letter sounds to help with correct pronunciation.

Please note it doesn't include the most difficult grapheme 'ure' pronounced 'ooer' in Huddersfield, as in 'are you sure?' Advanced readers learn that 'ure' can also make the sound 'er' as in 'picture'.

Thank you to the parents and grandparent who were able to attend this important meeting about the forthcoming Y1 Phonics Screening Check which will take place the week beginning Monday 12th June - Friday 16th June.

If you were unable to attend the meeting you can download the PowerPoint and leaflets to provide you with information.  Please call into school if you would like any further information how best to support your child's learning at home.  Thank you.
